The first pub a group of us went to for lunch was The Filling Station. Locals actually say it most resembles the atmosphere of an American pub. We had our first beer in Scotland there, actually served in pints or half pints. All the measurements are different compared to those of the States. Everything is measured in milliliters rather than ounces, and beers in pints or halves.
The nightlife in the city of Edinburgh is amazing...usually always something going on at some pub either sponsored by the University or not. Teviots and Pleasance are two student union bars that have great student prices on drinks and foods. Many students go there to hang out. I feel there are more pubs and clubs on every street than actual touristy shops. The first week nearly all 30 of us from the Arcadia program, the organization I am studying abroad through, went out together to a couple pubs and ended the night at a rather creepy club. Probably the last time we go to that one.
So far the best club a group of us went to was Siglo. Despite its door advertisement saying it is a burlesque bar, we didn't notice anything of that sort. They played great American music to dance to and made for a very fun night.
Dubs and I managed to still watch some of the NFL playoffs. They have many bars here that have SkySports. SkySports provides access to any sporting event where ever it is being aired. Can't wait to watch the Patriots play this weekend!
